UNION--
it's a DONE DEAL, and we're starting to expand to other hospitals.
a
key concept is the "community of interest" definition of a bargaining
unit, for one need not organize an entire network of owned-practices
in
one gulp; if all the doctors work in one particular institution, this
suffices.
also, today i will contact jfk for the first time on behalf of the
physicians who already have a "grievance" (although we don't yet have
a
contract)

The Philadelphia Inquirer, December 28, 1999
Business news in brief
In the Region [top-story]
JFK Memorial Hospital primary-care physicians unionize
Primary-care physicians at the union-owned John F. Kennedy Memorial
Hospital formed a collective-bargaining unit yesterday. About
20
doctors will be represented by the Federation of Physicians and
Dentists, after certification of the collective-bargaining agreement.
JFK is owned by District Council 33, which represents city blue-collar
employees. The hospital has $9.9 million in
assets and $32.7 million in liabilities. Hospital administrators did
not
immediately return a phone call seeking comment, and officials with
District Council 33 could not be reached for comment.
TOBACCO--
i received herron's order today; it contained no accompanying opinion
(as was the case with the pa supreme court). thus, he IGNORED
the fact
that Wawa wasn't "moot" but, hopefully, the Commonwealth Court won't;
that it wrote an opinion (regarding the MSA) is encouraging, here,
for
it is anticipated that Sheetz will complete its campaign, unimpeded,
and
that RJR will hold its (MSA-violating) concert.
BLUES--
nothing new, other than receipt of a complete Docket-Sheet from the
Insurance Department.

I'll be away for a week (Disneyworld) clearing the cobwebs, enjoying
my
son, reformulating strategy while waiting in line. . . .
CRITIQUE REMAINS WELCOME!
i'm still trolling for critique and support, but there's been
movement....
